Skills

A skill is a written playbook for one kind of job: how to write a cold email, how to plan a Meta campaign, how to brief an image. Agents and the CMO follow it when they do that job.

To edit one, see Skills.

Skills are workspace-wide

A skill belongs to your workspace, not to one agent. Edit it once and every agent that uses it, and the CMO, follows your version from then on.

10ex ships with built-in skills for email, ads on Meta, Google and LinkedIn (plan, copy and image for each ad type), blogs, images, video and CRM scoring. You can add your own beside them.

Skills versus knowledge and memory

Skills are method. Facts about your business belong in Knowledge and memory.

How an agent uses a skill

There are two ways a skill reaches an agent:

  • Built in. A step in the agent’s own workflow names the skill, so the full text is always in front of the agent at that step. The Blog Agent’s writing step always follows the blog skill.
  • Attached. The agent sees only the skill’s name and a one-line “when to use this”. When the task matches, it loads the full playbook. This keeps long playbooks out of the way until they’re needed.

Not every agent has a skill. Some agents have none on purpose: the work is a fixed sequence of tool calls, or the output must be exact numbers from a tool, so a playbook would only add room for mistakes.

Versions and the safety floor

Every save is a new version. History shows earlier versions and Restore brings one back. Reset to default returns a built-in skill to the original, and a skill you created can be deleted.

Each built-in skill has a short set of rules it must keep, such as “never invent metrics” in the image skill. Saving a built-in skill that drops one of those rules is rejected, and so is restoring an old version that does. Any skill, built in or yours, is rejected if it is empty or contains text that tries to override the agent’s instructions. If you want to change one of those rules, copy the skill under a new name and attach that copy instead.

Skill pages show an Eval line: whether the current text still passes its checks, and a recorded comparison of results with and without the skill. When none has been run, it says so.

A skill can be up to 100,000 characters.

Who can change them

Everyone can read skills. Members and above can create, edit and attach them. Deleting a skill needs the manager role or higher. See Roles and permissions.
